Biosil® Professional Dental Support does not supply collagen. It combines the patented ch-OSA® complex, a bioavailable form of silicon that activates the pathways your body uses to generate its own collagen, with vitamin C and vitamin K.

Why it matters for the tissues you work on

The periodontal ligament, the gingiva, the alveolar bone and the peri-implant mucosa are among the most collagen-rich structures in the body. Alveolar bone is not mineral alone: collagen is its organic framework, the template on which hydroxyapatite is deposited. Collagen quality is the foundation of tissue stability, and it is exactly what declines with age, smoking and impaired healing.

• Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of teeth, gums, bones and blood vessels.
• Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.

Two randomised controlled trials in dentistry

Periodontitis. Teughels, Persyn and Haytac. KU Leuven Department of Oral Health Sciences, Bio Minerals NV, and Çukurova University, Adana. Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled: 85 patients with severe generalised periodontitis, 72 completed, supplementation twice daily for six months after full-mouth one-stage disinfection.

• In deep pockets, probing pocket depth at six months was significantly lower with CS-OSA than placebo: 5.78 mm against 7.02 mm (p<0.05).
• In shallow pockets, the reduction in probing pocket depth over six months was significantly greater with CS-OSA: −22% against −2% (p<0.001).
• Bleeding on probing fell significantly with CS-OSA at three and six months, while it did not change significantly in the placebo group at six months: −35% against −8% (p<0.05).

The authors conclude that choline-stabilised orthosilicic acid may have a preventive role in tooth loss and may be used to slow the development of periodontitis.

Peri-implantitis. Teughels et al., BMC Oral Health, 2021 (PMID 34587941). Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, twelve months of supplementation after flap surgery, with cone beam CT measurement.

• Mucosal recession increased in the placebo group and stayed close to baseline in the supplemented group.
• The distance from the implant shoulder to the first bone-to-implant contact increased by 0.81 mm under placebo at twelve months, against 0.10 mm with supplementation.

An adjunct to your protocol, not a substitute

Nothing to manage chairside. The patient takes it at home. Biosil complements standard periodontal care and is intended to be used alongside it, after debridement.

Nutritional information

Two capsules contain: 10 mg silicon (as ch-OSA®) · 200 mg choline (as ch-OSA®) · 60 mg vitamin C (75% NRV) · 110 µg vitamin K (146% NRV, as MK-7 menaquinone-7).

Directions: take one capsule twice daily. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
